What’s Missing From Your Employee Management Software? Training and Practice.

So what’s missing from your employee management software?

The short answer? Training and practice. 

The long answer? It’s best explained with a junior high story.

In middle school, I was a first-round draft for group projects related to English or Algebra. But, they picked me last for dodgeball in gym class. Three years in a row. I was terrible at the game, and my 13-year-old self wasn’t okay with it. 

Believe me when I say this was the only thing I knew how to throw.

I remember standing on the sidelines, wondering how I could be so deeply awful at dodgeball. But here’s what I see now that I didn’t then—I never did anything to improve my dodgeball skills. I didn’t ask my gym teacher for tips and tricks. I never practiced my aim. I couldn’t learn from the kids who were great at the game because I was too jaded to ask for help. I thought I should perform well and get picked first without ever practicing. Too often, this is how we treat work, too.

My experience with dodgeball illustrates what it looks like when an HR software or employee management software lacks training and practice tools. Employees should be far better prepared and enabled to do their jobs well. Without the opportunity to train and practice within a performance management system, tracking learning and development outcomes is nearly impossible. And growing a team while still keeping everyone focused and united becomes challenging. Here’s why integrating training with performance management software makes employees feel like they’ve been picked first:

1. Training and practice become completely accessible.

HR management software rarely focuses on training. But when teams have the opportunity to practice their jobs, they stay on the same page. Why? Because people feel included if they’re learning and growing with the people around them. Continual access to training is the best way to maintain this growth, and clarity about what great work looks like becomes inevitable.

Access to training matters because people matter. Team learning and development is vital for success—when employees refine their cold calling techniques, practice chat messaging, or quiz themselves on product knowledge, they become experts at their jobs.
