I had the most vivid dream as a sophomore in high school. For context—I had taken four final exams the week before, and I was waiting for my grades to post. In the dream, an email came through saying exam grades were up, so I logged on to my school’s e-learning software to see how I did. One look at my scores, and my stomach sunk. I earned 37% on all four finals. Woof.
I woke up upset, sure that this was real life. Through tears, I told my mom the news. She hugged me and asked me to check my inbox and grades again. There was no email. And no grades. In the end, I was okay, and my GPA was, too.
Obviously this story is ridiculous, but it’s ridiculous with a purpose. We’re people, and we crave feedback. We need it to succeed and move forward. Even subconsciously, I wanted to know how I performed on those exams so I could measure my performance and do better work the following semester. Grades give us a great indication of where we’re at in school, and training tracking software provides this same type of clarity at work. Here are four reasons why:
1. When we track training, we know how we’re doing.
We all want to know how our work measures up to expectations. Most employees appreciate knowing what their boss thinks, how they’re doing compared to their peers, and what their team sees in them. Customer service agents especially need to know what’s working in their customer interactions and what’s not. Most are looking for ways to improve and grow and learn. With a great training tracker, agents are never left wondering because relevant training—and feedback—is applied and administered along the way. Areas for improvement are instantly met with additional training and support. Feedback is non-stop. No surprises. No 37%s.
2. Progress is inevitable.
Progress can’t help but happen with a thoughtfully built training and learning management system. Open source training software lends leaders, managers, and top performers the opportunity to create content for others to learn from. When teams hone their strengths and match their weaknesses with handcrafted training that’s specific to their needs, they will get better at their jobs. Training tracking software makes this easy.
3. Employee training management software that tracks performance holds us accountable. Kindly.
Training tracking software, as the name suggests, tracks progress and training. When most of us think about being tracked, we don’t feel great about it. Being watched or monitored closely can feel uncomfortable. Thankfully, that’s not what safe software with training tracking is about. Online employee training development is easy to embrace because its sole purpose is to not to play big brother, but to help teams improve. With great training software, we get to watch ourselves and our teammates develop new skills and win more together. When training is assigned from a place of wanting the whole team to thrive, each person owns their training, feels a duty to apply it, and pulls their weight for the team.
4. Numbers tell us where we’ve been and where we should go.
Data is at our fingertips with our training software. On our team, we use numbers to understand how well different types of training are working and the type of impact they’re having. Data from the past indicates what we should be focusing on in the future.
Consider this—in the short run, a manager assigns a lesson in Lessonly’s training tracking software to one of her agents. She can see how many minutes a learner spent on a certain lesson. If there was a quiz, she can view that person’s score. She can answer the two clarifying questions her agent asked—right in the software. That’s useful, immediate information. But it doesn’t stop there.
A few months down the road, she can compare that agent’s specific CSAT before and after those training and lessons were taken. A phrase we often use around here is, “Let’s match what’s getting done with what’s needed,” and what’s needed becomes easy to identify when training is trackable and we know exactly where to focus as we move forward.
Thankfully, I don’t dream about earning 37%s on my finals anymore, but I am still deeply committed to using performance metrics to train better and move the needle forward for Lessonly—and my own personal growth. With Lessonly’s training tracking software, we’re challenging, training, and growing our team in measured and strategic ways. If you love training and want to get in on the action, let’s dream up a solution together and talk about how your team can train, practice, and perform, too.
