Software companies have this really annoying habit… they want you to use their service after you buy it from them. SaaS companies are the worst about this, because their whole business depends on you renewing their service every month or year. </sarcasm>
Because of this, they do everything they can to make sure you have everything you need to succeed. Universities, knowledgebase articles, and webinars are just some of the way they go about giving you all the information you would need.
This content is a great place to start when creating your own training lessons on the software you use. Why is that?
- It’s likely been vetted and refined by hundreds, and possibly thousands, of clients before you
- It was created by the experts on the product – a.k.a. the product makers
- There should be a breadth of content on most aspects of their product
However, this should just be the start of your software training.
As with most software products, you likely use them in a way that is slightly unique for your organization. Make sure those customizations and uses of the software your company is using is illustrated in your training material. Nothing is worse than reading an instruction manual and getting to the end thinking “so how does this apply to how I will be using it?”
By taking this content that is already provided to you and turning it into training lessons, you could be saving hours of your time creating the material, and exponentially more of your co-workers’ time by providing great training material!
