Learning happens in many different shapes and forms. Sometimes learning happens in the form of a formal, 20-minute lesson on any particular topic. Other times, learning can happen from reading a blog post. Both can have equal merits, but tactically there can be some subtle differences in how you deliver this content. Take for instance the above idea. You find that you are coming across more and more interesting blog posts about your industry, competitors, or skills development and want to turn that material into training content. But how should you go about doing that?
We have seen many clients doing this type of training, which you can see at our Lessonly Reviews page. From what we have seen here are a few pointers to keep in mind when developing this kind of program:
- Come up with a name for the blog post series – It helps if there is something that unifies these types of lessons under the banner of a series name. Even better – grouping them under a single course will keep everything located in a single place and any time you have new content, just add a lesson to a course.
- Keep it consistent – Whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, having a consistent cadence of when the trainings will go out helps with keeping participation up.
- If possible, incentivize – This may look different from company to company, but one example I’ve seen is rewarding people who do well on these types of trainings (i.e. top 3 folks get $25 gift cards). Since this is more quality focused content as opposed to rules and tools type of training, if there is a way to incentivize it that will help with engagement. A simple certificate, like one found in our certificate of completion templates, is another way to recognize a job well done that is at no financial cost.
