The majority of training programs focus on the fundamentals of job skills, software systems, and company regulation. Those essentials are all important, but training is not limited to the inside of company walls. A great training program goes beyond the capacity of the company walls. Spice up your training schedule by getting outside the company.
Teach your employee more than just the fundamentals. Here are a few ideas that require you and your employees to get outside the company walls:
Team Building Activities
Successful businesses are the ones with the strong teams, not individuals. Use your training time to build a team. Steve Jobs said, “Great things in business are never done by one person, they’re done by a team of people.” Want a great business? Don’t train individuals; build teams.
Serving at a local charity is a great way to team build and get involved in your community. It will teach employees about service, support, and humility. Hiking, kayaking, or canoeing are wonderful ways to make a memorable adventure together. Getting active will be a relieving break for employees from listening to training meetings all day.
Team outings are a great way to facilitate bonding, reduce employee stress, and create a community outside the office. Think of activities that will be fun for your employees. If you can’t think of anything, ask your employees! Get new hires to break out of their shell by jammin’ at a karaoke night. Use a scavenger hunt for the employees to enjoy a beautiful day getting to know the city around them. Then, come back to the office and look at the photos together. Let your employees release energy after meetings by having a company party at Skyzone or a laser tag facility. Who doesn’t love being a kid again?
Weather is starting to get crisp outside, which means it is chili time! Have everyone bring their specialty chili dish. Parties and potlucks are a great way for employees to unwind and get to know each other deeper. Don’t try to force socialization, but let it happen naturally between the coworkers. Let chili warm your stomach and your office atmosphere.
